Profile of AMD
|Regarding to the ever-growing social importance of the new digital media
contents and services distributed with the advanced information networks, Association of
Multimedia Developers(AMD) was established under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Posts
and Telecommunications in November 25,1994. The main motive of the association is to
contribute to the sound development of information society in Japan by supporting the
growth of digital media contents and services as well as the new upcoming communication
Currently, there are approximately 90 members in the association, including the leading digital software production companies, in Japan. In June 1999, the association has decided to change its Japanese name and the English name to Assocation of Media in Digital(AMD) more focusing on the digital media and network corresponding to the rapid media and technology development and changes.
The major activities are; Investigation of the ethical standards concerning digital media production, establishment of copyright handling rule for digital media contents in the network age, research and study for upcoming new digital technologies as well as new distribution structure and various other activities for the development of digital media industry. Furthermore relationship with other foreign agencies and events are promoted, such as the New Talent Pavilion in MILIA.
And also the AMD Award of every year is acknowledged as the supporting evangelistic activity for digital content developers. In February 1999, the award ceremony "Digital Contents of the Year 1998" was held, and the Grand Prize was awarded by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications.
